President Ruto Unveils Ksh 50 Billion Development Plan for Kisumu County

In a landmark visit to Kisumu, H.E. President Dr. William Ruto announced a comprehensive multi-billion shilling development plan aimed at transforming Kisumu County into a model of progress and a first-world economy. The announcement, made in the heart of Kondele—a traditional stronghold of the opposition—signaled a powerful shift toward inclusive, national development that transcends political and tribal divides.

💸 A Historic Investment in Kisumu’s Future

President Ruto committed a total of over Ksh 50 billion for transformative projects across the county:

  • Ksh 44 billion for:

    • 14,000 affordable housing units

    • 20 modern markets

    • Student hostels for 10,200 learners

    • Creation of over 15,000 youth jobs

  • Ksh 5 billion for road infrastructure upgrades

  • Ksh 950 million to modernize Moi Stadium into a state-of-the-art facility

During the visit, the President laid the foundation stone for Phase II of the 401-unit Kanyakwar Affordable Housing Project and inspected the progress of Phase I.

🗣️ A Call for Unity and Inclusivity

Addressing a charged but hopeful crowd, President Ruto emphasized that “the people of Kisumu want development, prosperity, and opportunity that reaches every household.”

He extended an olive branch to the opposition, calling for UDA-ODM dialogue toward a possible coalition government ahead of the 2027 elections. He vowed to foster national unity over tribal divides and promised compensation for victims of past political protests.

“Our collective mission is a united and inclusive nation, where every community has a voice, every region has value, and every citizen has a stake in our shared destiny,” he stated.
