THE TRAIN IS FINALLY COMING TO KISUMU: President Ruto to Launch SGR Phase 2B Construction

KISUMU – Read that again. THE TRAIN IS COMING TO KISUMU.

Not a feasibility study. Not another promise. CONSTRUCTION.

President William Ruto is set to launch the building of SGR Phase 2B – the Standard Gauge Railway from Naivasha to Kisumu. Contractor camps are ALREADY SET UP in Kisumu and Narok. This is happening. Right now.

📜 A Vision 20 Years in the Making

The East African Community’s Railway Master Plan of 2006 was clear: build a modern railway from Mombasa through Nairobi to Kisumu and on to Malaba at the Uganda border. The full Northern Corridor. The spine of East African trade.

Between 2014 and 2019, Kenya built 592km of SGR:

SectionLengthStatus
Mombasa – Nairobi472 km✅ Completed
Nairobi – Naivasha120 km✅ Completed
Naivasha – Kisumu – Malaba370 km🚧 NOW UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Then, under President Uhuru Kenyatta, the railway STOPPED. Dead. At Naivasha – a town in the Rift Valley with no port, no lake, no border crossing.

For SIX YEARS, the SGR sat at Naivasha gathering dust while western Kenya, Nyanza, and the entire Lake Region were cut off from Kenya’s most important infrastructure project.

Today, President Ruto has ended that injustice.
