The Port of Mombasa marked a major milestone this week with the arrival of the first cruise ship of the year, as the luxury liner MV Crystal Symphony sailed into the harbour early this morning. This visit represents the ship’s second call to Kenya, having made its inaugural visit last year, and carried over 1,000 international guests on board.
Measuring 238 metres in length with a draft of 8 metres, MV Crystal Symphony arrived from Port Elizabeth, South Africa, continuing its global voyage along the Indian Ocean. The ship will spend one full day in Mombasa before proceeding onward to India, giving passengers a valuable window to experience Kenya’s coastal charm.
During their stopover, guests are expected to explore Mombasa’s historic Old Town, stroll through its vibrant streets, visit iconic landmarks, and take excursions to Kenya’s world-famous wildlife parks and cultural attractions. Cruise tourism continues to offer visitors a snapshot of the country’s diverse heritage, landscapes, and hospitality.
Speaking during the arrival, Crystal Symphony’s Cruise Entertainment Director, Ms. Vicky Vantassel, expressed excitement at returning to Kenya. She noted that passengers were delighted by the warm reception and eager to explore the destination once again, even within the limited time available.
The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cruise tourism in the country. Representing Managing Director Captain William Ruto, Mr. Turasha Kinyanjui, Corporation Secretary and General Manager for Board and Legal Services, highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance passenger experience through facility upgrades, improved port services, and close collaboration with tourism stakeholders.
The arrival of MV Crystal Symphony signals a busy cruise season ahead for Mombasa. Several more international cruise vessels are scheduled to dock at the port in the coming weeks, bringing a steady flow of visitors and providing a significant boost to local tourism, transport services, tour operators, and hospitality businesses along Kenya’s coast.
As Kenya continues to position itself as a premier cruise destination in East Africa, Mombasa remains a key gateway—blending maritime heritage, cultural depth, and unforgettable travel experiences.
