KISUMU – “Rieko jodongo ok duon; sudo e tieng’ ka tieng'” – the wisdom of our elders never dries; it is passed from one generation to the next.
The Luo people are spread far and wide across the world. Wherever we may be, our enduring bond is our culture – the thread that binds us together. Equally profound is the timeless saying, “Ruu rwath e meo rwath,” for every journey begins by following the path laid before us.
It is with great pride that we officially launch the 6th Piny Luo Festival, which will be held in Kisumu from 14th to 16th December 2026. This marks the beginning of another important chapter in celebrating our heritage, strengthening our unity, and shaping our collective future.
🤝 A Gathering of Leaders and Elders
The launch event was graced by distinguished leaders and custodians of Luo culture, including:
| Leader | Role |
|---|---|
| Mzee Odungi Randa | Ker of the Luo Council of Elders |
| Dr. Mathew Owili | Deputy Governor, Kisumu County |
| Beatrice Odongo | CECM |
| Kenneth Onyango | CECM |
| Other County Leaders | Various roles |
Their presence underscored the importance of this festival as a unifying force for the Luo community and its friends.
💡 The Vision Behind Piny Luo Festival
The vision of the Piny Luo Festival was conceived by the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, on the belief that a people who understand their history and embrace the wisdom of their ancestors are best equipped to shape their future.
This festival is more than a celebration – it is a reaffirmation of identity, a gathering of the diaspora, and a platform to showcase the richness of Luo culture to the world.
