In a historic and solemn tribute on Mashujaa Day, 20th October 2025, the Government of Kenya has posthumously conferred the nation’s highest honour upon the late former Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga.
By the authority of the Public Seal of the Republic and in exercise of powers conferred by the Constitution, His Excellency President William Samoei Ruto awarded the Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (C.G.H.) to the late statesman.
The official Kenya Gazette notice described him as “a Statesman of rare moral courage, a visionary patriot, a unifier of the people and a champion of justice,” whose name will forever be etched in the annals of the Republic. It further cited the unprecedented national and global outpouring of grief as a testament to his enduring influence and extraordinary service.
This prestigious award, the First Class of the Order of the Golden Heart, formally inscribes his name among the foremost of Kenya’s national heroes, acknowledging the nation’s “bottomless debt of gratitude” owed to him.
