The Mamboleo–Miwani–Chemelil–Muhoroni–Kipsitet Road (C674) —a strategic 122-kilometre corridor cutting across Kenya’s sugar belt—is currently undergoing an active upgrade as part of the Government’s sustained investment in modern road infrastructure nationwide.
🛣️ Project Scope
| Detail | Specification |
|---|---|
| Total Corridor Length | 122 km |
| Core Reconstruction | Approx. 63 km of main carriageway |
| Additional Works | Feeder roads and associated sections |
The project extends beyond the main carriageway to include complementary works on feeder roads and associated sections, bringing the total project scope to approximately 122 kilometres.
🌍 Regional Connectivity & Economic Impact
Once completed, the road will provide a seamless link between:
🏙️ Kisumu County
🌄 Nandi County
☕ Kericho County
Key Benefits:
| Benefit | Impact |
|---|---|
| 🚚 Traffic Bypass | Eases congestion within Kisumu City by diverting heavy commercial traffic away from Ahero |
| 🌾 Agricultural Efficiency | Greatly enhances transport efficiency for sugarcane farmers and other agricultural producers across the belt |
| 🌍 Regional Trade | Serves as a vital transit route for goods destined for Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo |
🤝 Multi-Agency Coordination
The implementation of the project is being supported by the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration, which is working closely with:
🏛️ Implementing agencies
👥 Local leadership
🏘️ Communities along the route
This collaboration ensures:
✅ A secure construction environment
✅ Effective coordination on the ground
✅ Smooth engagement with communities along the route
🏗️ A Whole-of-Government Approach
“This whole-of-government approach underscores the national commitment to infrastructure development as a catalyst for economic growth, regional integration, and improved livelihoods across the country.”
