Major Boost for Lake Region Youth as NYOTA Grants Disburse in Kisumu

Kisumu, 2nd February 2026 – Mamboleo Stadium was the epicenter of economic hope today as President H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, accompanied by PS for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy Fikirini Jacobs, presided over the disbursement of the NYOTA business grant.

A significant sum of KES 220 million was awarded to 8,820 young beneficiaries from Kisumu, Siaya, and Homabay counties. This event marks a critical step in the national NYOTA initiative, which has allocated KES 20 billion to empower over 820,000 youth across Kenya.

PS Jacobs addressed the gathering, highlighting that the NYOTA project is specifically designed to support young Kenyans who face challenges in securing formal employment. He stressed the programme’s accessibility, being fully digitized and available via the *254# USSD code for easy application and management.

The core objective, he stated, is to enable youth to start and grow sustainable small businesses. The PS issued a firm challenge to all beneficiaries, urging them to use the funds strictly for their intended business purposes. “Responsible use of this capital is the key to unlocking sustainable livelihoods and driving our local economy forward,” he emphasized.

The disbursement in Kisumu signals a major investment in the creative and entrepreneurial potential of the Lake Region’s youth.
