Event Title: World Sea Sunday: A Special Mass for Seafarers, Fishers & Their Families
Organized by: The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) – Department for Refugees, Migrants, and Seafarers
Date: Sunday, 13th July 2025
Time: 10:00 AM
Venue: St. Joseph Catholic Church, Milimani, Catholic Archdiocese of Kisumu
Theme: “Being There When a Storm Hits”
Description:
In our daily lives, we often enjoy the fish on our plates without seeing the faces of the fishers who toil day and night on the waters to bring us this nutritious meal. The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops has taken notice of this vital community and is dedicated to promoting and safeguarding their dignity and welfare.
Following the example of Jesus, who called his first disciples from their fishing boats, the Church goes to the lakes, oceans, and seas to call fishers back to the Lord. This World Sea Sunday Mass is a profound gesture of spiritual and pastoral care, offering prayers, psychosocial support, and recognition to fishers, seafarers, and their families.
Join the Catholic community in a special Mass to pray for their safety, celebrate their contributions, and ensure they feel seen and valued within the Church.
Main Celebrants:
Most Rev. Maurice Muhatia Makumba – Chairman of KCCB & Archbishop of Kisumu
Rt. Rev. Peter Munguti Makau, IMC – Bishop of Isiolo & Chairman of the KCCB Department for Refugees, Migrants and Seafarers
