The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has issued an official update regarding its ongoing Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiations with the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU). This follows recent public discussions about the status of the talks.
🤝 Meeting Overview
A negotiation meeting was held on 20th January 2026, during which KCAA expressed its commitment to good-faith discussions on all standard CBA agenda items.
⚖️ Key Sticking Point
A central issue arose regarding the definition of unionisable grades. KCAA clarified that its position is guided by an existing Industrial Court ruling (Cause No. 35 of 2011), which legally determines eligible grades. This ruling remains binding on the Authority.
Despite this, KCAA indicated readiness to proceed with discussions on all other relevant matters. The meeting concluded without agreement on the unionisable grades issue.
🕊️ Commitment to Continued Dialogue
KCAA reaffirmed its dedication to lawful, constructive, and good-faith engagement with KAWU and will seek to resume talks in line with labour laws and legal frameworks.
The Authority also assured the public of its continued focus on:
Aviation safety
Service continuity
Employee rights
Fulfillment of its statutory mandate
