Day Two of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) Board’s regional inspection tour kicked off this morning at Migori Lichota Airstrip, highlighting the ongoing collaboration between national and county governments in advancing aviation infrastructure. The delegation was warmly received by H.E. Dr. Ochilo George Mbogo Ayacko, Governor of Migori County.
👥 Leadership on the Ground
The inspection was spearheaded by KAA Board Chair, Hon. Caleb Kositany, and featured key figures including KAA Board Member Eng. Walter Ogola and Ag. Managing Director Dr. Mohamud Gedi, alongside senior KAA management. Their presence underscored the strategic importance of the Migori development to the national aviation blueprint.
🏗️ Terminal Progress & Passenger Capacity
The focal point of the visit was the ongoing construction of a new ultra-modern passenger terminal. The team reviewed significant progress on the facility, which is designed to handle up to 500,000 passengers annually and is on schedule for completion in December 2026.
Once operational, this terminal will transform the passenger experience at Migori Airstrip, offering enhanced comfort, efficiency, and service delivery.
🌍 A Strategic Gateway for Tourism & Trade
Beyond domestic travel, the new terminal is engineered to support regional operations, strategically positioning Migori Airstrip as a vital cross-border connectivity hub. This development is set to:
Facilitate seamless travel between Kenya and Tanzania.
Strengthen access to the world-renowned Maasai Mara tourism circuit.
Act as a catalyst for increased tourism, trade, and regional economic integration.
This project reaffirms KAA’s commitment to developing aviation nodes that not only serve local communities but also plug regions into larger continental economic and tourism networks.
