Final Preparations Underway for the Piny Luo Festival & Cultural Extravaganza in Migori

County Officials Tour Key Venues Ahead of Landmark Cultural Celebration

The countdown to one of Western Kenya’s most anticipated cultural events has begun. Senior officials from the Migori County Government recently conducted a crucial inspection tour of selected venues for the upcoming Piny Luo Festival and Cultural Extravaganza.

Led by Deputy Governor Dr. Mahiri Gimunta and County Secretary Dr. Oscar Olima, the delegation visited two primary sites set to host major festival activities:

  1. Thim Lich Ohinga in North Kadem Ward: A UNESCO World Heritage Site and ancient stone-walled settlement.

  2. Senye White Sand Beach in Muhuru Ward: A scenic lakeside location on the shores of Lake Victoria.

The tour focused on evaluating the state of preparedness, including facilities, accessibility, and logistical coordination, ensuring everything meets the highest standards for the landmark event.

A Festival of Heritage and Unity

The Piny Luo Festival is designed to celebrate the rich heritage, traditions, and unity of the Luo community while positioning Migori County as a premier cultural and tourism destination. This 5th edition promises to be a vibrant display of “Culture, color, music, and unity.”

Spotlight on a New Attraction: Thim Lich Giraffe Sanctuary

A significant highlight of the preparations is the grand launch of the Thim Lich Giraffe Sanctuary within the historic site. This exciting new attraction is a collaborative effort brought by Ambassador Esther Akoth Kokeyo (Akothee), the Brand Ambassador for Migori County, in partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), the National Museums of Kenya, the Kenya Tourism Board, and Skyward Airline.
