Usikimye, in collaboration with Creatives Garage, presents MASKAN – a profound art installation addressing the femicide crisis in Kenya. Curated by award-winning multidisciplinary artist Thayù, this immersive experience creates a space for mourning, memory, and resistance.
The Reality:
129 women were killed in Kenya in just 3 months. Most by people they knew. Most inside their own homes. MASKAN (meaning “home” in Swahili) represents what should be a safe space for women and girls to laugh freely, rest safely, and live fully – but has become a grave for too many.
Exhibition Experience:
Through soundscapes, scent, text, video, and installation, you’ll enter a house of mourning that holds both presence and absence in equal measure. This is not just an exhibition – it’s a collective protest and embrace, where victims are remembered not as statistics but as daughters, lovers, artists, mothers, and friends who had dreams, names, and mattered.
